Yes - A visa is required for travel to Afghanistan

A valid passport and business visa are required for travel to Afghanistan.

Passport Requirements:

Original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay in Afghanistan, with at least one blank passport page available for Afghanistan visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Afghanistan visas.

Los Angeles: The passport must have two blank passport pages face to face.

Washington D.C.:

You must provide your actual signed passport, including one copy of the personal information page of your passport. Your passport must:

  • Be valid for the next six months
  • Have at least two blank visa pages back to back
  • Not be frayed, torn, separating, or altered in any other way

Afghanistan Visa Application Form:

One signed Afghanistan visa application form, plus one copy.
Washington DC and Los Angeles: All visa applications must be notarized, the notary stamp must be on the second page of the application. After placing your order, fill out the application form included in your Visa Application Kit. The notary's signature must be visible near the stamp.


Photo Requirements:

One recent 2 x 2 passport type photograph, in color, front view and with a plain/white background.

OR - you can upload a photo when you place your order, instead of providing physical passport photos.


Letter of Authorization:

Los Angeles:

An authorization letter authorizing the power to drop off and pick up your application must be included with your application. The complete letter must:

  • Be printed on your company's official letterhead
  • Display your full name, passport number and job title
  • Specify the purpose of your trip
  • Include the validity of your requested visa
  • Display your company’s US address
  • If you are requested a visa for 1 year or longer, you must include an approval letter secured through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan.

Included in this kit is a sample Authorization Letter for your reference.  Please use the exact language found in the sample when completing your own authorization letter and include any special requirements listed above.


Official Invitation:

Los Angeles:

You must provide an official Letter of Invitation issued and approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan. This letter must:

  • Be secured by your host in Afghanistan. The approved letter of invitation must be stamped by the Chamber and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan
  • Be sent directly to the consulate

A copy may be included with your application. However, the consulate will not process your visa request until the original letter of invitation is obtained.


Business Cover Letter:

Original, signed letter from employer or sponsoring company in the US, on company letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant’s employment status/position held in the company, and including the applicant's passport number. If the applicant is a government contractor, this must be stated on the letter. The letter must specify the purpose of visit to Afghanistan, and request the Afghanistan visa. The business letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant while in Afghanistan and must provide detailed contact information in Afghanistan.

The Consulate of Afghanistan requires an official business letter to support your application. Los Angeles: You must provide an original Business Cover Letter printed on official company letterhead. An original ink signature is required. Copies are not accepted.

Multiple Entry Visa Applications: The Consulate of Afghanistan in Los Angeles does not issue multiple entry business visas. You will apply for a single entry business visa; once issued, you will have to have the visa updated through local authorities upon arrival in Afghanistan.
